A bright sunny evening at the completly revamped home of Hyde Football Club saw City open their 2010/11 campaign  with a fine victory over Aston Villa, who had won the Southern division of the reserve league for the past few seasons.

It was really a story of goals allowed and not allowed and the mis fortune that fell the way of the scorers.

First to get the name on the score sheet were Villa on 16 minutes only to be denied by the offside flag and it was in this goal scoring escapade that Villa lost their Number 6, the Chicago born Eric Lichaj who had spent time on loan at Lincoln and Leyton Orient last season, the young defender suffering a leg injury in a collision with David Gonzales which eventually led to him being stretchered off.

The first goal of the game came City's way on the half hour mark after some sustained pressure. Kelvin Etuhu had a shot from twenty five yards turned round for a corner, from the resulting corner Villa full back Durrell Berry was on hand to clear Alex Nimelys header off the line. The ball was cleared as far as Donal McDermott who fed it through to Nimely and he poked the ball beyond the advancing keeper , to give City the lead and in doing so injured himself and he to was stretchered off.

The half time break saw all the Villa side remain out on the pitch presumably to gee them up for the second half. It was City however who took the ascendency and Benali flashed a shot just wide of the Villa goal. The visitors cause was not helped when on 75 minutes Nathan Baker was sent off for a second yellow card offence and within a minute City were two up when Abdisalam Ibrahim fired home from the edge of the box.

City continued to pressure and Scott Kay had a shot well saved by Elliott Parish and both Omar Elabdellaoui and James Poole flashed shots across the box  but there was nobody on the end of them
