City Go Top
MCFC Reserves 2 - 0 BCFC Reserves
Manchester City went top of the Premier Reserve League after a two nil victory over Birmingham City and replicating the first team's start to the season with ten points from four games. It also means
that at all levels throughout the club we are still unbeaten from the first team down to the U16s academy team. City's goals came from man of the match, Stephen Ireland and a Marc Laird deflected
shot half way through the second half.
After yet another inspired display from the Irish teenage midfield playmaker, Stuart Pearce should be looking to include the youngster in the first team squad. Sylvain Distin had a useful sixty five
minute run out in preparation for Saturday's derby encounter at Old Trafford. Weaver was again commanding in his area with a few fine saves and surely now needs to go out on loan to a Championship
club with DeVlieger and Kasper Schmeichel as cover for David James.
Robbie Fowler did not quite match his performance as he did last week at Wigan and was largely anonymous for most of the second half that he was on the field for.
The downside of the match saw Wright-Phillips limp of the field of play after a collision with Colin Doyle, the Birmingham goalkeeper, in the build up to City's first goal.
