Bolton Wanderers U18's 2 Manchester City 2
(Guidetti 15mins,pen, Elabdellaoui 85mins)
Almost back to somewhere near a performance we have been used to by Citys multi lingual side.
There were a number of firsts in todays game which will be revealed as this report panes out
It was a wet, cold and blustery day at Boltons Lostock Farm training ground.City started the game with a group hug, the first time that has been seen this season and perhaps was done to show a bit of unity in the side as things have gone slightly off the rails recently.
City started off brightly buoyed by their little love in but unfortunately the strong cross winds were favouring neither side,
On 15 minutes City were in the lead.Jeremy Helan had burst down the left, cut into the box and was ceromonisaly upended by the Bolton number 4. John Guidetti made no mistake from the spot and scored his eighth of the season
It was the French winger Helan who was causing the Bolton defence all sorts of problems and another foray of his saw a shot from 18 yards saved by the keeper low down,
Play was held up for a number of minutes when Reece Wabara collided with the head of his fellow team mate Shaun Tse, who was making his first appearance of the season after being out for some time through injury
Despite City enjoying lots of possession they could not really capatalise on their superiority and it was no real surprise when Bolton drew level on 52 minutes. Boltons number 10 was presented with an easy opportunity after City keeper Eirik Johansen mis judged a low cross from the right
City then spurned a couple of other opportunities both involving the marauding Helan, his burst down the left saw a first time cross met by Ahmad Benali and a Bolton defender turned around the England youths shot at the foot of the post.
Helan then saw a shot of his saved at the second attempt by the Bolton keeper
James Paris was then introduced for his first appearance at academy level, coming on for Spaniard Jean Olle who was being watched by his family and relations who had come over for a week from the warm climates of Espanyol, god knows what they were thinking of the fine British weather at the open surroundings of Boltons ground.
Five minutes from time City took the lead a quick throw in by Tom Smith found Norwegian, Omar Elabdellaoui who raced into the box and he placed his shot past the advancing keeper.
Just as you thought City were going to register a win and move away from the bottom half of the table, when yet another defensive lapse lets them down. minutes from the end of the game the Bolton number 2 races down the right flank, into the box, Johansen covers the near post and number 2 crosses for an easy finish from number 7
