Bury End Senior Cup Chance

BFC Reserves 3 - 2 MCFC Reserves

Yet again an Ian Miller team fails to rise to the occasion as Bury showed far more commitment to win the game to end City slimmest of chances of qualifying for the senior cup final. A hat-trick from Bury's number nine which was probably Chris Mason as the team sheet showed it as Simon Yeo sealed City's fate; even though they did score two second half goals from Ian Daly and James Poole.

City started the game reasonably well with some good penetrative play but could not find a way past Cameron Belford in the Bury goal who has recently returned from a loan spell at conference north Worcester City; probably because of the Andy Preece connection.

Bury took the lead in the thirty second minute when the number nine was able to get clear on the left of the penalty area and fire past Richard Martin in the City goal.

Three minutes later and Bury had doubled their advantage when back to back corners led to the ball not being fully cleared and the number nine forcing the ball over the line and the assistant referee adjudging the ball to have cross the line before it was cleared away.

Four minutes after the break Clayton McDonald clumsily brought down Domaine Rouse when he was clear on goal and the referee quite rightly awarded the penalty and McDonald was lucky to not even be booked for the challenge. The number nine stepped up to firmly convert the penalty past Martin.

Two minutes later City had equalized when a pinball action found the ball with Ian Daly on the right as he fired into the far corner of the goal whilst McDonald and a Bury player were on the floor after a clash of heads.

City pulled another goal back in the ninetieth minute when Poole found himself able to run through the gap in the defence and able to slot the ball past the out-rushing Belford as it bobbled over the line.

City now face Stockport County in a behind closed doors game for their final Senior cup game next Tuesday.
