Cardiff City 0 Manchester City 3
Saturday 22nd August 2009
Scorers: Benali, Elabdellaoui, Redshaw(P)
The opening fixture of the new academy programme saw Citys latest batch of youth academies travelling to South Wales for an early morning kick off.
With no goals coming in the first half, new academy coach Andy Welsh's half time talk worked wonders as City followed his instructions and played the better football in the second period of 45 minutes, registering three goals with no response from the home side
The first goal was one described as coming about following some 'class play' with Ahmad Benali applying the finishing touch. Omar Elabdellaoui back in the side following a slight knee injury added Citys second. The third goal was all down to Jack Redshaw who drove past two Cardiff players into the box and was brought down by a third player, he then picked himself up and duly converted the awarded penalty to complete the scoring on a fine day for the academy side.
