City shunt Crewe into sidings

MCFC U18s 3 - 0 CAFC U18s

By Andrew Waldon

City’s Academy side recorded yet another win to maintain their place at the top of the league, but this was by no means as easy as the scoreline suggests.

For the opening twenty to thirty minutes, City were absolutely battered by the visitors, and battered is probably an understatement. Filip Mentel made at least four top draw saves, shots were cleared off the line, attacks scrambled away in the box and one Crewe player even contrived to hit the bar from five yards out, such was the away sides dominance of the opening period.

As is the nature of games like this, City broke away on thirty two minutes, with their first attack of the game and scored. A typical Vladimir Weiss two footed shuffle left a Crewe full back flat footed and his angled shot found the back of the net.

Weiss was instrumental in City’s second goal midway through the second half. Crossing from the right, the ball evaded everyone bar Ryan McGivern coming in at the far post.

Four minutes from time David Ball wrapped the points up, latching onto a back heel from substitute James Poole, to finish from close range.

Team

The U16’s made it a good day all round for the academy sides with a 2-1 win.
