Manchester City Reserves 4 Everton 1
City of Manchester Stadium
Tuesday 1st September 2009
Ball(2), Cunningham, Vidal
Attendance: 369
City ran out comfortable winners over an Everton side , with the exception of Yakubu, who were perhaps giving away a year in age to the slightly elder City side. Everton arrived at COM's top of the reserve league, not that , that meant much as all sides had only played one game.
After a couple of opening attacks from Everton which resulted in very little, City took the lead on 11 minutes. A long ball out of defence fell kindly for David Ball, he beat off the challenge of an Everton defender in the box and slid the ball beyond an advancing Iain Turner
Paul Marshall then put a shot just wide of the post before City scored their second goal of the night on 14 minutes. Karl Moore fed an over lapping Gregg Cunningham, he then cut inside and fired home.
Everton pulled a goal back on 26 minutes when Adam Forshaw capatalised on a slip in the box by Dedryck Boyata, following a cross from the right, Forshaw turned and fired beyond Nielsen
The second half saw James Poole come on for Karl Moore and he was involved in Citys third goal on 55 minutes, combining well with Javan Vidal on the edge of the box, Pooles final ball through to Vidal gave the right back the easy chance of increasing his sides lead
Kieran Agard then went close on a couple of occassions for the visitors, but Nielsen was equal to each of the chances,
Gregg Cunningham earned City a penalty on 69 minutes going down under the challenge of Turner, however Alex Nimely was too smart with his approach to taking the spot kick and shot straight at Turner
With five minutes to go Nielsen saved well from Jose Baxter whilst at the other end Turner had to tip over a shot from Ball
Ball however added the final goal of the night on 87 minutes, brushing past James McCarten to send an unstoppable shot past an over worked Turner.
