FA PREMIER RESERVE LEAGUE

Manchester City 1 Liverpool 0

Guidetti(P) 45+

It turned out to be quite a dour game, in which both sides really needed to win to try and achieve top spot in their respective divisions.

A penalty at the end of the first half, converted by John Guidetti was enough to give City all three points, Liverpools defeat meant Blackburn Rovers won their division and its between the two Manchester clubs as to who wins our division following Uniteds demolition of Chelsea, who funnily enough are our final oppenents of the season.

City enjoyed the lions share of possession in the first half .Harry Bunn, who has dealt with the promotion from academy to reserves perfectly, set up John Gudetti whose shot on the turn was well saved by Martin Hansen in the Liverpool goal. The two combined again minutes later but Bunn skied his shot over the bar,

Chances were at a premium but Liverpools number 10 forced a good save out of Eirik Johansen when he cut in from the right following a missed place ball out of defence by Ryan McGivern.

It had been a somewhat forgettable first 45 and just as it seemed the two sides would go in at the break score less, City were awarded a penalty when Andre Wisdom pushed Guidetti to the floor, and in a spot kick similar in style to Carlos Tevez, where he takes a step to  the side, the Swede calmly struck the ball into the bottom left hand corner

Once again opportunities were few and far between in another shocking half of football which was totally devoid of any quality and that was all down really to the quality of the pitch, what has happened to it we can not answer and we certainly dont recall it being as bobbly as it was for any previous games.

Liverpool were slightly better in the second half, but that was only to be expected because they had to look to win the game.City however had the better openings both falling to Guidetti.

Benali on for the second half, in his first appearance for a while following injury, put Guidetti through on goal but his first time shot was turned round for a corner and in added time the Swede should have scored again when through on goal, there were however strong claims for a penalty as he went to ground.
