FA PREMIER ACADEMY LEAGUE
Saturday 24th April 2010
Manchester City 2 Huddersfield Town 1
Benali 2 mins
Hippias 83 mins
City fielded a changed side against Huddersfield as winning the league is now out of their grasp and Huddersfield are hardly the strongest of opposition. Those changes saw City struggle to impose themselves and despite taking an early lead through Ahmad Benali could quite of easily been defeated until a late second goal from Emerick Hippias sealed the result. However Huddersfield scored a great goal with a twenty five yard thunder strike in second half stoppage time to give a far more realistic scoreline.
City's first goal came in the second minute when the ball was played through from midfield for Ahmad Benali to run onto and fire past the Huddersfield goalkeeper. Usually that early goal helps the team to settle down but they just never really got going and there were far too many individual mistakes that if we were playing far better opposition would have surely meant we would have conceded at least one goal.
City did come close to doubling the lead in the seventy fifth minute when the Huddersfield defence had a mix up and Joan Roman Olle pounced and ran in and forced a good save from the goalkeeper. City did get that crucial goal in the eighty third minute when a route one ball was sent up field by James Wood and the Huddersfield defender miss-judged the bounce and Emerick Hippias ran onto the ball and fired past the goalkeeper.
Huddersfield goal came when their midfielder got hold of the ball and moves into space and fires a dipping shot from twenty five yards that has Wood beaten all ends up as the ball smashes into the back of the net.
On a seperate note it was good to see that John Guidetti started for his loan Swedish side and scored a goal in his first full start having made a cameo substitute appearance last week.
