Huddersfield See City Win League Title

MCFC U18s 2 – 0 HTFC U18s

A windy day saw a poor game develop, but City finish off a couple of chances to win their league and progress to the national play-offs with their fifth consecutive victory against a Huddersfield side that are bottom of group D.
Second half goals from Ched Evans and David Ball took their strike partnership past the thirty goal mark.
In truth Huddersfield never looked like winning but at nil nil for a long period of the game and with the wind gusting as it was, the Yorkshire team could always get that half chance that might go in.
City’s first goal came from a Paul Marshall free kick that he won from a high boot from the Huddersfield player. Paul drove the ball into the area with his trusty left foot and Evans headed the ball past the goalkeeper who had come out to collect, but mis-timed his run.
City doubled their lead ten minutes from the end when a strong run from Evans down the right led to a great cross to Ball; who we thought had blown his chance but turned well to push the ball past the keeper and secure the league title.
The question is now how do the academy staff play the remainder of the games; you do not want to over play these young players, but too much rest might seriously harm their form. There is also the thought of seeing how some of the U16s will perform in this league, get a bit of a heads up so to speak on next season’s potential form.
Anyway the lads will have a difficult game next week as they make the long away trip to Sunderland who currently sit second in group D.
