Leeds Hit For Six
MCFC U18s 6 - 1 LUFC U18s
Leeds United were struggling for a goalkeeper to fulfill this fixture and so City were allowed to loan them our new signing Tobias Johansen and as you can see he was forced to pick the ball out of
the back of the net six times. The game was played for the first time and for the remainder of the season at regional sports arena next to COMS.
City's main protagonist was as always David Ball who scored a poacher's hat-trick of goals in the first half with Captain Ben Mee, Donal McDermott and Robbie Mak being the other three scorers in the
second half.
City took the lead in the seventh minute when Vladimir Weiss went on a strong run that drifted towards the wide right of the penalty area and put his shot past Johansen and was heading in; but there
was Ball with his killer instinct to claim the unwarranted glory.
City were forced into an early change with Scott Kay being replaced by Angelos Tsiaklis. Ball nearly doubled the lead just over the half hour mark when again Weiss turned provider when he wriggled
free of the attention of three defenders to slib ball in but Johansen saved well as he tipped Ball's effort over.
Three minutes later and City had doubled their lead when Ball chased a ball to the by-line and played it back to Weiss who jinked past the defender and crossed it for Ball to tap in at the near
post.
Within two minutes the game was won and Ball scored his third goal with a lovely flowing move that started with a great turn by Andrew Tutte to free him some space and play a good ball out wide to
Ryan NcGivern who sent a pass down the line for McDermott to chase and he cut back inside and crossed for Ball to finish from a couple of yards.
Tutte nearly made it four goals before the break in time added on when again Weiss made a good run down the right and slipped the ball back to Tutte where space opened up and his first time shot went
just wide of the post.
City had a disastrous start to the second half when at the end of the first minute a mix up between Mee and returning goalkeeper Filip Mentel allowed the ball to role over the line with no pressure
on play.
City gained their three goal cushion in the thirteenth minute with Mee making amends for his part in the goal when he headed a great Kieran Trippier corner downwards that took a wicked bounce that
totally deceived Johansen and went into the back of the net.
Three minutes later and it was five goals. David Ball was fouled from behind around thirty yards out but the referee rightly allowed play to continue as the ball came out wide left for McDermott to
bamboozle the defender and drive a hard low shot past Johansen and into the bottom far corner of the net.
City's sixth goal came when the number six Leeds defender made a hash of a clearance and the ball came to Mak who hit the ball first time from thirty five yards with Johansen out of his goal into the
empty net.
City played the last three or four minutes with ten men because Trippier was forced off but City had already used all of their three substitutions.
City's youth cup final first leg(away) is likely to be Fiday 11th April with the second leg at COMS either the 16th or 17th April.
City: Mentel(GK), Trippier, McGivern, Mee(Capt.), Boyata, Kay(Tsiaklis 22), Weiss(Nimley-Tchuimeni 55), Tutte, Ball(Mak 62), Poole, McDermott.
Subs: Hartley(GK), Ramsey.
The U16s had a disappointing game at Platt lane where they suffered a rare loss of three two.
