FA PREMIER ACADEMY LEAGUE

Manchester City U18's 2 v Leeds United U18's 1

Olle(2) 72min, 79min

City got their season back on track with a hard fought victory over Yorkshire rivals Leeds United at Platt Lane with a brace of goals from Juan Olle and hung on with Leeds getting a late goal and missing a free header near the death.

The first half was pretty much a non event as neither goalkeeper were really tested and Leeds defended well especially their centre half who was marshalling Big John Guidetti who is yet to complete his loan move to Sweden. The only thing worth talking about is yet again Leeds field a player with a City connection as two season's ago Tobias Johansen played for Leeds and this time it was the turn of Kingsley Grandison who's City career has nose dived this season is at the Yorkshire club on trial; however Kingsley did not appear in the second half.

City could have taken the lead in the fifty seventh minute when captain Ahmad Benali went on a run into the penalty area and was hacked down and the referee rightly awarded the penalty. Benali took the responsibility but his shot to his right was saved well by the goalkeeper and pushed the ball clear.

City finally took the lead in the seventy second minute when good work down the left hand side came to Guidetti in the area with his back to goal and layed the ball off to Olle who jinked his way into space before curling a right foot shot into the back of the goal.

City doubled their lead when Tasos Kapsalopodas got forward well and played the ball into Olle who again mesmerized the Leeds defenders before slotting the ball into the goal.

With just over a minute later and City found themselves being begged back with an own goal by Andrew Mitchell as he tried to clear a ball that had cannoned goal wards when in the build up Olle was clearly fouled and the ball spilt and Loris Karius could not get hold of it and it somehow went goal wards.

City were then pushed back as unbelievable the referee played a lot of Fergie time as he played nearly seven minutes of stoppage time when all the stoppages did not tally more than four minutes. During that time Leeds whipped in a very good cross from the right and a free header was fired just over the crossbar.

City now have a couple of weeks off over Easter and will face Bolton Wanderers at Platt lane on Saturday 10th April hoping for back to back wins and to keep up this unbeaten run.
