City out fox Leicester
MCFC U18s 4 - 1 LCFC U18s
by Andrew Waldon
The opposition for the opening home game of the season changed from Fulham to Leicester City in what many envisaged would be a difficult game against a Leicester side that won their group last
season. Kick off was down for mid day but it actually started at 11.45, not bad considering the away side had been at Platt Lane since about 10am and yet again their was no team sheet, so with that
little grumble out of the way, here goes with the report.
The Leicester side contained a fair few players over six foot tall and to be honest a few off them looked a lot older than 18 and the City side contained all the regular faces and not as the official
Leicester site said "a side that contained two or three players with first team experience"
Reece Wabara, a centre half formally at Walsall's academy and with a couple of famous relatives (Pele Reid, Heavy weight boxer and Mark Walters ex Aston Villa) gave City the lead just past the
quarter hour mark, prodding home from close range, Andrew Tutte took his side into the break two goals to the good with a wonder strike, running from inside the D on the half way line before lashing
in an unstoppable strike
Further goals followed in the second half, Liberian striker, Alex Nimely made it three from close range before Chris Chantler made it four. The side should have had more , Ibrahim had an effort
headed off the line, the Leicester keeper made three or four good saves and Robbie Mak narrowly put one wide when completing a fine move from the City right.
Leicester pulled a consolation goal back minutes from time, but that did not take the gloss of a fine win from a very good side
Team:
Clegg(GK), Smith (Paldan), Cunningham, Wabara, Boyata, Tutte, Trippier (Guidetti), Ibrahim, Nimely(Redshaw), Mak, Chantler
Sub: Johansen (GK)
Ps: Why did City only have 4 subs for this game, when there were at least a dozen other eligible players all watching from the sidelines?
The U16 side started their season off with a winning start coming from 2-1 down to win 3-2.
