Liverpool 3 v Manchester City 3
Spearing(16), Pacheco(30), Saric(93)
Mak(25),Nimely(65),Poole(66)
In a game between the top two in the northern section of the reserve league with City being the visitors at Liverpool's new home of Tranmere's Prenton Park the watching faithful were treated to football at the very highest level with some great moves with lovely one touch football from both sides led to an exciting full time score line of three all with goals from Spearing, Pacheco and substitute Saric. The City goals came from Robbie Mak, Alex Nimely-Tchuimeni and James Poole.
The opening ten minutes saw Spearing curl a shot just wide and Liverpool's goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi pull off a good save from Poole. However it was Liverpool that took the lead in the sixteenth minute when Spearing let fly with a speculative shot that kicked of the wet turf with the windy and rain soaked ground proving difficult and too much for Gunnar Nielsen to save from.
Four minutes later and a mistake from Reece Wabara let in Liverpool and Nathan Eccleston who should have made Nielsen at least make a save but his effort was just wide. City got themselves back into the game in the twenty fifth minute when Mak was fouled and Donal McDermott whipped in the free kick and it came to Mak on the edge of the area and he curled his shot into the top corner.
Liverpool re-took the lead on the half hour mark when City's midfield found themselves out of position and Daniel Pacheco was left free to shoot past Nielsen in the far corner of the goal. Spearing nearly doubled his tally and Liverpool's two goal advantage when the ball deflected in the air and he ran into head the ball but it hit the post. City with Abdisiliam Ibrahim nearly levelled things when he made a strong run and his shot was just wide.
Nine minutes after the re-start and again Liverpool threatened and it was down to Nielsen to pull off a double save; the first from Alex Kacaniklic which was a powerful shot and Pacheco ran in for the re-bound but Gunnar saved bravely at Daniel's feet.
Then within ninety seconds City had completely turned the game on its head with two goals. Poole and McDermott played the part in the build up in the first of this double as neat passing came to Nimely who slipped the ball under Gulacsi. The second of the double in the sixty sixth minute was started by Ibrahim and he found McDermott and then a short pass to Poole whose neat and quick feet eluded Liverpool's defence to fire past Gulacsi off the inside of the post.
Two minutes before the end and Liverpool should have equalized when a long ball from Gulacsi bounced and was not dealt with by City's defence and Pacheco ran on but he shot wide. Liverpool did equalize however in stoppage time
when the ball from the left was headed back into the area where substitute Nikola Saric was un-marked and fired past Nielsen. That result probably means that Liverpool will probably go on and win this division are they are a very classy team.
