MCFC U18s 5 – 0 MFC U18s

Guidetti(2), Benali, Bunn,Smith

City fans who have followed the academy side have been spoilt over the last few years by the richness of talent that has come through that has seen us dominate the league; season after season. So we were perhaps slightly in shock after we lost two matches on the bounce against sides that we have regularly beaten in their standard. That all changed today with a much more rounded performance and the midfield looking a lot more fluid and John Guidetti and Harry Bunn working really well together up front. So by the end of the match a few of the Middlesbrough players were a little bit frustrated with each other as nothing was coming off for them as City dominated with goals from Ahmed Benali, Guidetti, Tom Smith, Bunn and an own goal that started the scoring off.

The first goal came in the thirteenth minute when Bunn played a good ball into Guidetti down the right and he crossed into the near post but the goalkeeper somehow bundled the ball into the goal. City had doubled their lead six minutes later when Omar Elabdellaoui again found Guidetti on the right and he surged into the box and cut the ball back to Benali who checked and fired into the near post when the goalkeeper thought he was going to the far post and so he totally wrong footed him.

Omar was again instrumental in the third goal when he cut free in the centre of midfield and forced the defence back before slipping a great pass to Guidetti who held the defenders off before rifling the ball into the back of the goal past the bewildered Middlesbrough goalkeeper.

Benali this time turned provider for the fourth goal with five minutes remaining of the first half when he found Bunn in space and he fired a good shot that the goalkeeper did well to save but he was only able to divert the ball into the path of the un-marked Smith who slotted into an empty net.

City's fifth and final goal came in the sixtieth minute when Guidetti did a really good turn that left the Middlesbrough player clutching fresh air and he pushed the play forward and the ball eventually came to Bunn and he fired the shot in but the goalkeeper got a good hand to it but it still bounced in off the post.

Next up for City is one of their hardest grounds they go to, Sheffield United, as they rarely win there for some reason. Perhaps being early in the season the weather might be better and not play to the South Yorkshire sides' strengths.
