Manchester City 2 Newcastle United 2
Bunn
Kennedy
City twice surrender the lead in their latest match against Newcastle United at Platt Lane. City's goals came from Harry Bunn, scoring his seventh goal in five appearances and centre half Kieran Kennedy getting the second.
The first real moment of the match fell to Newcastle when they had a free kick about thirty yards out in the centre. Their number eleven confidently stepped forward and struck a fine shot directly on goal that Eirik Johansen had to get a strong hand to, to tip over the bar for a corner.
City took the lead in the thirty fifth minute when right fullback Luke Coulson pushed forward from his own half before passing to Joan Olle in the centre of the field in lots of space; Joan then made his move towards goal jinking past the Newcastle players and was fouled right on the edge of the area but amazingly he managed to play the ball into the path of Bunn who shaped himself to shoot with his right foot and into the far corner.
Newcastle's equalizer came about when Coutney Meppen-Walters miscontrolled a ball and the Newcastle player was able to nip in and pass to their number nine who fired past Johansen in goal.
City re-took the lead in the fiftieth minute when a free kick about ten yards into Newcastle's half on the left was sent in by Olle as it swung out to the far post, and up leapt captain Kim Skogsrud and he headed to goal but the goalkeeper could only parry the ball and Kieran Kennedy followed in at the near post.
Then the officials continued to prove how inept they were when the referee's assistant decided that Tom Skogsrud's close attention of Newcastle's captain inside the area was a foul and thus the referee who had a perfectly good view of the situation decided to go with his assistant's bizarre view of the situation. Newcastle's number eleven stepped up and sent Eirik the wrong way to convert the penalty.
Next up for the academy is Manchester United who have a near identical record to City with three wins and two draws as they drew one all with Sheffield United today.
