FAYC at Preston

The draw for the third round of the FA Youth Cup was made today(13/11/09) and City have been handed a difficult tie away at Preston North End.

It will however see former City academy players Ryan McGreevey, Daniel Devine and Neil Dougan up against their former team mates and lets not forget Preston are coached by an ex City player, Jamie Hoyland

The two sides recently met in a friendly fixture at Platt Lane which City won 6-1, but to be fair to Preston , they only had a young side out.

Sterling for City?

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is ready to let QPR have two players on loan - as part of a massive bid to land wonder kid Raheem Sterling.

Hughes and his team are so desperate to get the 14-year-old boy genius that they have told Rangers they can have a couple of their fringe men plus £1 million to sign him now.

Sterling has been earning rave reviews playing for the Rangers under-18 team and starred on his England under-16 debut last week in front of Brian Marwood and Brian Kidd.

The young Londoner will not sign a long-term deal at Rangers and City want to buy him now in a record deal - and are making it more tempting with the offer of players.

Rangers boss Jim Magilton does not want to lose Sterling but the chance of taking two City men would help his Championship promotion bid and their short-term aims.

Magilton will watch City's second team in action shortly, with the mega-rich club keen to get their target ahead of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

City are also boosted by news that Sterling would like to join them to continue his football education, although that would mean uprooting from London with his mum

Belgium winger reveals City interest

Teenage Belgian winger Maxime Lestienne has revealed Manchester City were interested in him before PSV Eindhoven.

The 17-year-old Mouscron star, who made his debut last season, has been in great form recently and scouts are taking note because of his Belgian club's financial position.

PSV Eindhoven, Anderlecht, Standard Liege, Club Brugge, Lille and Genk have all shown interest as they scent a bargain with Lestienne's contract due to run out in 2011.

But Lestienne claims he is in no rush to join a bigger club and is quite prepared to wait for the right move.

He told Het Nieuwsblad: "Last year, Man City made me an offer - although that does not mean I will refuse everything. But it is also a question of whether you get a good feeling about a proposal."

Former City trainee aids Vics in FA Cup glory

Northwich Victoria's victory over Charlton Athletic, was in no thanks down to a former academy player at City.Michael O'Connors header into space was enough for Wayne Riley, who incidentally was released by City at the age of 15, to latch onto score. O'Connor was at Citys academy for a couple of seasons before drifting into non league football with Woodley. Also in the victorious side was Jonatahan D'Laryea who was a regular in City's reserve sides and of course their assistant coach is former first team favourite Andy Morrison

Nathan joins Glenn Hoddle Aacademy

Adam Clayton joins Carlisle on Loan

Manchester City have loaned midfielder Adam Clayton to Carlisle United until January 2.

The England Under-20 midfielder, who recently played in the Under-20 World Cup in Egypt, signed a two-year deal in May but has yet to figure in Mark Hughes' senior plans this season.

Carlisle manager Greg Abbott said: "We're really looking forward to working with him. He was on the brink of the first team last season but, with the arrival of the likes of Robinho and Gareth Barry, it has become very competitive.

"City have been fantastic with us and they see this as an opportunity for their player to come in and help us, by giving us some depth in a key position."
