Reading 1 Manchester City 2

Drury

Bunn(P)

City’s Under 18 side left it late to continue their winning start to the season.

Forced into two changes from last weekends commanding win against Arsenal. Courtney Meppen-Walters(ex Husbands) and Alex Henshall were on England duty, there were first starts for Slovakian Albert Rusnak and flying winger Adam Drury

A last minute penalty from Harry Bunn, after substitute Emyr Hews had been fouled in the box, gave the young academy side a 2-1 win away at Reading, who had hit back after falling behind to a goal in the 12th minute from Adam Drury.

In a game played for some reason behind closed doors City opened the scoring.Bradley Robinson cut in from the left and his long range shot was spilled by the keeper and Adam Drury was on hand to smash the ball home.

The hosts drew level just after half time,a corner from the left was not dealt with and Reading defender McHugh tapped home but the goal stung City into action .Straight from the restart Juan Roman Olle tried an audacious effort from the half way line and almost caught the keeper out as the ball just sailed over the bar

On 75 minutes a corner from Bradley Robinson was headed back in by Drury and another header this time from Kim Skogsrud struck the underside of the bar.

Three minutes into injury time and substitute Emyr Hews, making his first ever appearance for the senior academy side was up ended and Harry Bunn made it four goals in two games sending the keeper the wrong way

There was still time for Robinson to make another run at goal and his shot hit the bar and went out to safety.

Manager Scott Sellars felt they deserved their second straight win of 2010/11.

“Collectively it was another excellent performance overall,” said Scott, “but I was disappointed that we had let Reading back into the game.

“We responded well to their goal, and I thought we just about nicked it in the end over what was a very good Reading side.”
