Sheffield Wednesday Notched Off

SWFC U18s 1 - 3 MCFC U18s

City field a mainly U17s side against Sheffield Wednesday today with City playing their youth cup final game last night. Goals from Robbie Mak and a brace from Jack Redshaw ensured that City are now one win away from equaling their twenty one game winning season record from the twenty eight games played. However with their last three games against Everton, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, those games will not be easy.

City played well today and Mak caused the Sheffield back line all sorts of problems and had he had his scoring boots on a hat-trick would have been easily achieved. Perhaps because he had missed his chances earlier on he let Jack Redshaw take the penalty he had won when he was brought down in the area after a strong run. Jack confidently stepped up to put the ball into the top right hand corner of the goal in the fifty seventh minute.

This seemed to wake Wednesday up and Joe Clegg in the City goal pulled of a great save to deny a good shot that was heading for the top corner from the edge of the area. Clegg was powerless to stop a bullet heading equalizer from a corner six minutes later.

Within five minutes City had gone back in front when a ball over the top was chased by Mak who drove into the box and confidently fired past the goalkeeper.

City doubled the lead two minutes later when again Mak did all the work after Adrian Cieslewicz had flicked on a good header and Mak drove into the box and fired at goal. The goalkeeper got a good hand to it and it would have rolled over the line, but there was Jack to claim the glory poachers goal.

City now face Liverpool on Wednesday lunchtime in their re-arranged game at the Athletics arena.
