Manchester City 2 Stoke City 0

Bunn 18

Roman Angel(P) 66

A first half goal from Harry Bunn and a second half penalty from Juan Roman Angel were enough to give City victory over a Stoke side currently sitting at the bottom of City's academy group

City's sixth win of the season took them into second place in the league, one point behind current leaders Everton and ahead of Bolton who lost at West Brom and Manchester United who did not play.

Eirik Johansen made a rare appearance between the sticks for James Wood, who had a slight knee injury, 15 year old George Evans retained his place in the side as Alex Henshall made up the numbers on the subs bench as City were able to name a full complement for some time

Early on the Stoke keeper had to make a fine save from Juan Roman Angel but had no chance with City's opener on 18 minutes. Good approach play between Meppen Walters and Angel, saw the latter feed the ball to  Bunn who had enough time and space to fire into the bottom corner.

Despite all City's fine approach play it was evident they needed a second goal and they were nearly punished for not finishing their chances on 38 minutes when Stoke had strong appeals for handball turned down  and with the ball falling to the Stoke forward, Johansen had to save well.

City continued to spurn chances with Adam Drury and Bradley Robinson guilty of misses with the goal at their mercy.

Alex Henshall replaced Harry Bunn on 66 minutes and with his first touch earned City a penalty when brought down by the keeper, with Bunn off the pitch having a well earned rest, Angel took the responsibility of penalty taker and easily dispatched the spot kick, to give City a two goal cushion.

Two further substitutions for City saw their general play become sloppy at times and the Stoke left back and substitute striker both wasted golden opportunities to put the visitors back in the game although Adam Drury could have made it three nil deep into injury time, with a mazy run that saw his shot strike the foot of the post

Team:

Johansen, Coulson, Meppen-Walters, Kennedy, K Skogsrud, Clowes, Drury, Evans (Rusnak 72), Bunn (Henshall 63), Roman Angel, Robinson (King 69)

Subs:

Morrissey, T Skogsrud

The U16's however could not match their elders and were two down at the break before pulling one back and eventually losing 3-1.
