Forthcoming Fixtures

The thought of seeing another team in Red & White strips brought on a bout of sickness for our regular reporter, so the brains behind this website dusted down is pen and paper and fought his way through the rush hour traffic and the occasional snow flurry to make his way to Ewen Fields the home of Unibond(North) side Hyde United.

Both sides fielded relatively young teams with Nedum Onuoha perhaps the most senior player on show and it was to be the proverbial game of two halfs.

City dominated the first forty five. Ben Mee had the first opportunity on 10 minutes but guided his header from a Greg Cunningham free kick wide of the target

On 14 minutes the referee awarded City a penalty when Michael Kay clearly held Abdisalam Ibrahim back and Andrew Tutte dispatched his spot kick to the right of Ben Wilson in the Sunderland goal

A couple of changes at half time probably worked against City with Elabdellaoui and Helan being replaced by Guidetti and Chantler. It seemed a bit of a strange decision considering Jeremy Helan was having good success down the left wing, with perhaps the only logical reason for the change being that both players could have been involved in an U18 fixture a few hours earlier at Platt Lane when a City side defeated Northern Ireland U17's, 6-4.

John Guidetti had a shot deflected wide at the beginning of the second half, but it was the visitors who were to take all the points with two second half goals from forward David Dowson

The first arrived on 55 minutes when he beat Onuoha for pace and there was enough power in his shot to go beyond Gonzalez

Andrew Tutte struck the under side of the bar when set up by Nimely but it was in time added on when Dowson struck again thanks to a  howler of a clearance by Gonzalez that struck the Sunderland forward and crossed the line and handed the vistors an undeserved victory,
