West Brom U18's 2 Manchester City 2
Bunn, Hippias
City's academy played their first competitive game of the new decade when they travelled to West Bromwich Albion's training ground near Walsall and they came away gaining a late equalizer despite having a depleted squad with a few injuries. The goals came from Harry Bunn and substitute Emerick Hippias at either end of the ninety minutes.
City's opening goal came in the third minute when some neat work and turn by captain Ahmed Benali who slipped away from his markers and played a good through ball out on the left of the area when Harry burst forward and fired a left foot shot across the goalkeeper and into the far corner of the goal.
City's lead only lasted just over ten minutes when they were able to force the play down their left hand side and cross for their imposing centre forward who has played for West Brom's first team to head past Loris Karius in the City goal.
West Brom completely turned around their goal deficit in the forty seventh minute when their big centre forward lashed a curling shot that took a deflection and went right in the top corner of the goal to give Loris no chance.
West Brom's centre forward had an opportunity to score his hat-trick but he put his effort over which allowed City to equalize in the eighty eighth minute when some neat football by Omar Elabedellaoui pulled himself away from the West Brom Players before releasing Benali with a well weighted slide rule pass and he played a cross cum shot that Hippias was able to just tap in at the far post of the goal.
City are scheduled to play Bolton next Saturday at Platt Lane where hopefully they might have a few players back from injury.
